Māori kites were covered with the bark of the aute (paper mulberry) plant We couldn't get our hands on any of these plants so we improvised. We used the leaves from the Nikau palm tree.
Raupō (bulrush) was used as covering on a number of smaller kites. But in these photos the nikau plant. Not good for flying kites but it sure is going to look good as a display piece. Looking forward to posting up the finished product whānau.
